Responsible for troubleshooting and repairing CEB’s domain controllers, Active Directory, and DNS, and Messaging environment.  Identified problems with AD replication, DNS configuration, and Group Policy configuration and engineered and implemented permanent solutions designed to provide stable future growth.

  • Identified and repaired replication problems with CEB’s multi-forest, multi-domain environment.  Created scripts to troubleshoot and automatically repair chronic issues with AD integrated applications.
  • Redesigned the replication topology to better support the physical site links and MPLS network between multiple national and international sites.
  • Maintained automated user security systems with MIIS/ILM/FIM Forefront Identity Manager.
  • Managed and maintained a multisite Exchange 2007 messaging implementation with multiple application integrations such as LYNC, BES, and Good.

  • Developed VBScript and PowerShell scripts to manage implementation of AD changes and to support other engineers and administrators to gather AD information to report to end users and auditors.
  • Monitored system health using SCOM, Spotlight, and Solar Wind's Orion.
  • Supported PKI infrastructure and managed SSL and Domain name holdings saving the company $45k per year through efficient management policy. Coordinated the successful bid and purchase of gTLD .ceb and provided expert advice on the design and deployment of domains and sites.


Sr. Active Directory Engineer, Legg Mason

Led the engineering team responsible for architecting Legg Mason's out of the box deployment of Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory to an efficient, fault tolerant configuration supporting critical financial systems.

  • Designed and implemented the multi-site configuration of Active Directory 2003 resources for the Legg Mason global Windows network.  Created conventions for Sites, Site-links, Subnets, and Windows physical topology. 
  • Designed and implemented the OU structure of AD 2003 to create a simple and efficient organization customized to the needs of Legg Mason’s corporate environment of 5000 users, 400 servers, and 12 domestic and international sites. 
  • Designed and implemented GPO’s to manage workstations, servers, and audit requirements.  Documented and updated existing GPO’s while planning consolidation and elimination of redundant and unused GPO’s to create a more efficient policy infrastructure. 
  • Migrated to Active Directory 2003 Forest Native Mode.  Engineered and implemented the forest-to-forest trusts required to share resources with affiliate organizations. 
  • Documented all AD designs to be used by the Tier 2 support personnel, user administrators, and workstation administrators.  Created how-to documents to support new infrastructure designs. 
  • Developed simple VBScript and PowerShell scripts to manage implementation of AD changes and to support other engineers to gather and update AD records in the Windows environment. 
  • Designed and implemented a project to remove the former NT4 domain from production to ensure security audit requirements by eliminating the use of old security protocols.  Organized the migration of servers, trust changes, and GPO changes required to complete the project.

Managed a team of 15 engineers and was team lead for AD engineering to provide expert IT support for 12000 HUD users.  My responsibilities entailed ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, quality control, ISO 9000 compliance, and engineering effective solutions for HUD’s complex needs using proven IT solutions.
  • Oversaw daily operations of the Microsoft server 2000/2003 infrastructure for the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development reporting directly to Director of Information Technology at HUD.
  • Managed/supported 15 engineers on Active Directory, SMS, Backup, Citrix, and Windows server administration teams.
  • Designed, maintained, and troubleshot HUD’s Enterprise Active Directory forest supporting 12000 users in a multi-domain, 88-site environment.
  • Directed and designed GPO management for security, enterprise server and workstation policy, security and software distribution.
  • Engineered and implemented the migration of 34 domain controllers in 1 forest, 8 domains, and 10 sites separated by WAN links from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 native mode Active Directory. 
  • Designed and supported the AD infrastructure, AD integrated DNS, and GPO’s required to migrate 12000 users from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange 2003, Live Communications server, and SMS 2003.
  • Performed general maintenance and administration of 250+ servers using Microsoft’s standard tools, custom automation scripts, TNG, Hyena, and other tools.
  • Created and updated ISO 9000 documentation of HUD LAN policies and procedures.
